The brackish inland waters of Florida's bays are home to numerous fish, crustacean, mollusk, and aquatic plant species. They are also sought after fishing locations for many anglers seeking some of the more iconic fish species like Red Drum, Snook, and Spotted Seatrout, which in the shallower grass "flats" regions of this ecosystem. You can also sometimes find larger seasonal fish like Spanish Mackerel, Tarpon, and Red Snapper in the deeper areas of these bays.

This aquatic ecosystem is under constant threat by human activities, like runoff from agricultural nutrients and sediment pollution, as well as, boat traffic that desertifies the grass flats area. In addition, overfishing of the Red Drum and Snook continue to decimate their populations. It's important to protect this incredibly valuable ecosystem before we tragically over use it.
